The 3rd China Automotive Standards Internationalization Center (CASIC) Forum Successfully Held in Geneva, Switzerland
The 3rd China Automotive Standards Internationalization Center (CASIC) Forum was successfully held in Geneva, Switzerland on November 14, 2025. The forum was attended by Mr. Li Wei, Vice President of China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd. (CATARC), a founding member of CASIC; Mr. Zhang Xiangchen, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO); and Mr. Michael Kleiner, an official from the Economic Department of the Canton of Geneva, who all delivered keynote remarks.Organized by CASIC, the Forum serves as a globally influential platform for dialogue and cooperation on automotive standards and regulations. It aims to strengthen collaboration between governments, international organizations, and industries from China, Switzerland, and beyond. The Forum contributes to advancing the internationalization of Chinese automotive standards, supporting China’s deeper integration into the global automotive regulatory system, and fostering sustainable, high-quality development of the global automotive industry in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).In his opening remarks, Mr. Li Wei expressed sincere appreciation to the governments of China and Switzerland, international organizations, and industry institutions for their long-term support. He emphasized that CASIC will continue to build an open and cooperative platform for international exchange on standards and regulations, fully leveraging Geneva’s role as a global hub for international rule-making, and expanding the depth and breadth of international cooperation to support high-quality development of the global automotive industry.Mr. Zhang Xiangchen noted that the establishment and growth of CASIC reflect China’s active participation in global governance and its commitment to integrating into the international automotive standards and regulatory system. He highlighted that the WTO places great importance on international coordination and mutual recognition of automotive standards and expressed his expectation for deeper cooperation with CASIC in promoting sustainable development of the global automotive industry.Mr. Michael Kleiner stated that since CASIC was officially registered in the Canton of Geneva in February 2020, it has achieved remarkable progress. He expressed hope that CASIC will continue to play a stronger bridging role in promoting technical exchanges and economic and trade cooperation between China and Switzerland.During the keynote session, representatives from the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29/GRPE) introduced the latest progress in decarbonization of inland transport. A representative from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) shared insights on how artificial intelligence is driving sustainability in motorsports and mobility. China Mobile International presented on building a global digital foundation for intelligent connected vehicles, while representatives from WP.29/GRVA provided updates on regulatory developments for autonomous and connected vehicles.At the Forum, CASIC officially released the “Initiative on the Standardization Development of Artificial Intelligence Technologies in the Automotive Industry (2025)”. A special session was also held on the Digital Product Passport (DPP), focusing on its framework, challenges, and implementation pathways in the automotive industry. The session was opened with remarks by Ms. Kamola Khusnutdinova, Secretary of UNECE, followed by insightful keynote speeches from multiple international experts.More than 100 leaders and experts attended the Forum, including representatives from the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, the Chinese Embassy in Switzerland, Chinese-funded institutions in Switzerland, as well as international organizations such as UNECE, ISO, ITU, WIPO, FIA, and the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers. Industry organizations from Europe, France, Japan, and South Korea, along with the Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Swiss-Chinese Economic Association, and CASIC member organizations, were also present.Looking ahead, CASIC will continue to serve as a vital bridge for international exchange and cooperation in the automotive industry, foster a more efficient global collaboration ecosystem, and contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the sustainable development of the global automotive sector.
