The Second CASIC Forum Successfully Held in Geneva on November 15, 2024

On November 15, 2024, the Second Forum of the China Automotive Standards Internationalization Center (CASIC) took place in Geneva, Switzerland. The forum was attended by Mr. Gong Jinfeng, Vice General Manager of China Automotive Technology & Research Center Co., Ltd. (CATARC), and Mr. Michael Kleiner, Economic Affairs Officer at the Office for Economic Affairs and Innovation, Canton of Geneva, who both delivered keynote speeches.

Mr. Gong Jinfeng expressed gratitude on behalf of CASIC to the governments, international organizations, and industry associations of China and Switzerland for their continued support. He emphasized CASIC's commitment to building an open platform for dialogue and collaboration on automotive standards and regulations, leveraging Geneva’s unique position as a global hub for international standard coordination to deepen international cooperation and contribute to the high-quality development of the global automotive industry.

Mr. Michael Kleiner highlighted CASIC’s achievements since its establishment and expressed his hopes for the center to further strengthen its role as a bridge between China and Switzerland, fostering technical exchange in the automotive industry and enhancing bilateral trade relations.

During the forum, CASIC and the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) jointly launched the China-Europe Automotive Industry Map and CASIC Perspectives – EV Battery Swapping. These publications aim to enhance mutual understanding between the automotive sectors of China and Europe and actively contribute to the internationalization of automotive standards.

The event featured presentations by representatives from major international organizations:

  • The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on the latest regulatory advancements in intelligent and connected vehicles.
  • The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on sustainable, smart, and safety-focused automotive standards.
  • The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on innovative online standard development initiatives.
  • The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on AI research efforts.
  • The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on its Green Technology Database Project.
  • The International Trade Centre (ITC) on its collaborative research on automotive regulations in the China-ASEAN region.

Experts from organizations such as the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), CLEPA (European Association of Automotive Suppliers), UTAC CERAM (French Automotive Technology Research Center), the University of Geneva, China Telecom Europe, and CATARC engaged in discussions on topics such as intelligent connected vehicles and sustainable transportation.

The forum welcomed over 100 leaders and experts, including representatives from the Permanent Mission of China to the UN Office in Geneva, the Chinese Embassy in Switzerland, CATARC members, UN organizations, the Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the Swiss-Chinese Association for Economic Development.

Looking ahead, CASIC aims to enhance its role as a vital link between the Chinese and global automotive industries, fostering more robust collaboration to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and advancing the sustainable development of the global automotive sector.
